Job Description

Dis-Chem Parelberg in Paarl is looking for a Cosmetic Frontshop Assistant. The role involves maintaining merchandising standards and providing excellent customer service at the point of sale, following Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0-6 months of retail work experience

Advantageous:

  • 1 year of work experience in retail
  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full ranges of products are always on shelves and neatly presented.
  • Check stock on shelves to avoid sell-by date issues.
  • Restock merchandise to support maximum sales.
  • Follow up on out-of-stock queries from customers promptly.
  • Store and pack delivered stock correctly.
  • Verify merchandise displays, labels, and pricing; report discrepancies to management.
  • Keep the storeroom organized and tidy.
  • Stay updated on new products to assist customers effectively.
  • Help with restocking and back shopping as needed.
  • Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
  • Process purchases, including cash, cards, vouchers, and other payments.
  • Exchange or accept returns when authorized by the Frontshop Leader.
  • Process loyalty cards, including those from partner programs.
  • Place cash in the drop safe following standard procedures.
  • Get approvals for line voids and price changes.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow.
  • Rotate stock regularly and follow Dis-Chem stock control procedures.
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, damaged, or expired stock to management.
  • Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking.
  • Identify and report damaged or expired stock immediately.
  • Help with loading and off-loading stock when required.
  • Flatten boxes after unpacking and place them in the designated area.
  • Build professional relationships with customers; offer friendly, helpful service and advice.
  • Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
  • Meet the customer turnover per hour benchmark.
  • Assist in training new and existing team members.
  • Scan and ensure payment for all outgoing stock, items, or scripts.
  • Keep daily takings in the till drawer until placed in the drop safe.
  • Report any bad or suspicious behavior to management.
  • Maintain housekeeping to Dis-Chem standards.
  • Follow Dis-Chem policies, standard operating procedures, health and safety rules, and uniform policy.

Competencies

Essential:

  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration
  • Ability to solve potential issues and know when to escalate them
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Good verbal communication to convey ideas and facts
  • Respond to customer questions promptly
  • Follow procedures and recognize their importance
  • Take responsibility for work quality and timeliness with minimal supervision

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), numerical skills, and SAP experience
