Control Environmental Officer: Grade A (Environmental Information Management and Reporting)

Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) Certificate plus a 4-year degree (NQF 7) in Information Management, Environmental Management, or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental management and information management.
  • Experience using spatial data.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B).

Competencies

  • Knowledge of environmental indicators.
  • Strong understanding of South African environmental laws, policies, and protocols.
  • Awareness of national, provincial, and local government strategies affecting the environment, such as the National Development Plan (NDP) and Provincial Development Plan (PDP).
  • General knowledge of environmental issues and public service principles like Batho Pele.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills in environmental indicators, database management, data processing, and interpretation.
  • Managerial skills including project management, financial management, and analytical thinking.
  • Time management, conflict resolution, and report writing skills.
  • Personal qualities: conscientious, dedicated, innovative, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.

Duties

  • Provide reporting services for the Environmental Services Programme, including reports on the Environmental Sector Local Government Implementation Plan.
  • Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Chief Directorate.
  • Liaise with stakeholders on environmental reporting matters.
  • Coordinate strategic planning for the Chief Directorate.
  • Develop an integrated state of the environment reporting system, including data collection and provincial environmental performance indicators.
  • Support state of environment reporting at the local level.
  • Participate in and contribute to national and provincial forums.
  • Develop and maintain an integrated Environmental Information Management System, including GIS, for reporting, spatial information, permitting, impact assessments, and other legislative needs.
  • Manage information management system projects and related initiatives.
  • Map, store, and process spatial data according to the District Development Model and DPME guidelines.
  • Handle administrative duties, budget inputs, and planning.
  • Manage staff and resources in the subdirectorate.
