Control Engineering Technologist: Grade A
The Department of Water and Sanitation is responsible for managing South Africa’s water resources. It develops and implements policies for the sector. The department works to provide clean water and proper sanitation to all South Africans. It also ensures effective and efficient use of water resources.

Requirements
- A Bachelor of Technology in Engineering (B-Tech) or a similar engineering qualification.
- Six years of experience as an engineering technologist after qualification.
- Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a professional engineering technologist.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of operations and maintenance, project management, contract management, and supply chain processes.
- Understanding of legal requirements and skills in writing technical reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, plus abilities in conflict resolution and negotiation.
- Skills in problem-solving, analysis, decision-making, teamwork, creativity, financial management, people management, customer service, planning, and organization.
Duties
- Manage an area office and support a team of engineers, technologists, technicians, artisans, and other staff.
- Promote safety according to laws and regulations.
- Lead projects to update technical manuals, drawings, and procedures with new technology.
- Check the quality of technical designs and specifications, and recommend approvals.
- Handle administrative, human resources, and related tasks.
- Manage finances and contribute to budgets, operational plans, and procurement.
- Prepare and submit reports as needed.
- Join committees like the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Disposal Committee, Bid Committees, security groups, and management meetings.
- Deal with risks and disaster management issues.
- Conduct research and ongoing professional development to stay current with new technologies.
- Work with relevant organizations on engineering matters.
- Be ready to travel within the area office, cluster, and nationwide for work.
- Mentor and supervise staff.
- Perform research and studies to build engineering knowledge.
