Consultant: Asset Management – Software (Fixed Term Contract) Jobs

Job Purpose

Ensure adherence to policies by maintaining and monitoring organisational assets in line with SARS policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in IT/Finance and 5-7 years’ experience in software asset management, including 2-3 years at a technical skilled level.

Alternative

• Senior Certificate (NQF 4), ITIL certification and 10 years’ experience in software asset management, including 2-3 years at a technical skilled level.
• Azure Fundamentals, CSAM and LISA qualifications are an added advantage.

Minimum Functional Requirements

• Software Licensing Knowledge: Understanding of various licensing models (e.g., per-user, per-device, subscription-based).
• End User License Agreement: Ability to interpret licensing terms and agreements from major software vendors such as Microsoft.
• Cloud Resource Management: Practical knowledge of cloud licensing, including managing cloud activity with tools like Microsoft Azure Monitor, Billing and Cost Management.
• Asset Tracking and Management: Proficiency in using SAM tools and software for tracking and managing software inventory.
• Audits: Ability to perform software audits and maintain accurate records of software usage.
• Compliance Management: Knowledge of software compliance requirements and regulations to ensure adherence to licensing agreements and avoid legal issues.
• Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, including operating systems, network configurations, and software deployment processes.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Skills in analysing software usage data to identify trends, optimize licenses, and reduce costs. Ability to create reports and dashboards to show software asset status and compliance.

Job Outputs

Process

• Conduct end-to-end software asset management activities, including procurement, deployment, utilisation, and decommissioning of software.
• Basic knowledge of cloud architecture and resource management.
• Manage software asset management portals and tools to support compliance.
• Optimize and control cost management in the organization’s cloud environment, including developing and managing budgets for cloud resources and services.
• Provide transparency and accountability for cloud expenditures through detailed reporting and analysis.
• Continuously monitor the performance of on-premises and cloud assets to ensure they meet required service levels.
• Respond to all software audit queries.
• Identify and resolve queries and problems promptly, using discretion within process guidelines.
• Watch for possible violations of procedures and standards of conduct, and escalate where necessary.
• Plan and organise your own work tasks within given guidelines.
• Conduct verification processes to ensure the SARS fixed asset register is complete and updated.
• Plan for value-added process improvements, initiatives, and services to support operational strategy and objectives.
• Provide specialist input by investigating opportunities for operational, process, product, and risk optimisation.
• Initiate process and procedural changes, implement them, and provide guidelines and support for new requirements.
• Apply practical knowledge to methods, systems, and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
• Communicate situational interpretations and judgements on work outputs and queries in your area of specialisation.
• Apply policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation correctly in your work.
• Draw on your knowledge and experience to diagnose symptoms, causes, and effects to solve emerging problems.
• Accumulate information to review work progress, providing input for reporting, decision-making, and identifying improvement opportunities.

• Ensure cloud and on-premise software assets adhere to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational policies.
• Implement and contribute to the development of governance, compliance, integrity, and ethics processes in your area of specialisation.

• Develop and maintain productive relationships with SARS role players and third-party suppliers to maximise benefits in software licensing, maintenance, and service offerings.
• Seek out, integrate, and share new knowledge from formal and informal learning opportunities in your job.

Finance

• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Experience in cloud asset management, particularly within Azure.
• Ability to analyse large datasets to optimize IT costs, usage, and performance.
