Job Title: Consultant: Asset Management – Hardware (Fixed Term Contract)

Job Purpose

Ensure adherence to policies by maintaining and monitoring organizational assets in line with SARS policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification and Experience Required

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in IT or Finance, plus 5-7 years of IT Infrastructure Asset Management experience, including 2-3 years at a technical skilled level.

Alternative

  • Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and ITIL certification, plus 10 years of experience in IT Infrastructure Asset Management, including 2-3 years at a technical skilled level.

Minimum Functional Requirements

  • Hardware Asset Management experience, including understanding of policies and regulations governing IT Infrastructure Assets.
  • Asset Tracking and Management: Proficiency in using discovery tools and Microsoft PowerBI dashboards to manage hardware inventory.
  • Audits: Ability to perform asset verification to maintain accurate records of IT Infrastructure Assets.
  • Compliance Management: Practical knowledge of disposal processes to ensure compliance with manufacturers’ regulations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, including operating systems and network configurations.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Ability to analyze asset lifecycle data (covering procurement, ownership, location changes, disposal, etc.) to identify trends, optimize asset utilization, and reduce total cost of ownership. Skilled in creating reports and dashboards that clearly communicate asset status, movement history, financial value, and compliance with organizational policies.

Job Outputs

Process

  • Responsible for the daily and long-term strategic management of IT Infrastructure hardware assets.
  • Provide financial expertise within the IT environment to assist technical teams in managing IT Infrastructure assets.
  • Provide financial expertise to SARS personnel responsible for procurement of IT Infrastructure Assets.
  • Manage the IT Infrastructure asset register, ensuring it is continuously updated to reflect asset movements for accurate input into SARS Financial statements.
  • Accumulate information to report on work progress, use for decision-making, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Apply discretion and judgment to diagnose symptoms, causes, and effects, and make decisions to overcome problems and provide solutions.
  • Ensure procedures, policies, and mandates are clearly understood and complied with.
  • Ensure the development, alignment, and implementation of end-to-end processes within your area of accountability for continued process improvement.
  • Implement change and provide guidelines to direct reports, defining the impact of change, the change itself, and new requirements resulting from the change.
  • Link and communicate unit objectives back to the mandate, schedule, and prioritize activities, and allocate work to meet identified outputs.
  • Manage a work function or unit by focusing on the delivery and achievement of set objectives within specified time frames, costs, and standards.

  • Initiate process and procedural change, implement the change, and provide guidelines and support related to new requirements resulting from the change.
  • Apply practical and applied knowledge and act authoritatively on methods, systems, and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Communicate situational interpretation and judgment of work outputs and queries in your area of specialization.
  • Correctly apply policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation in the delivery of work outputs.
