Job Summary

Rand Water seeks a Compliance Specialist – Advisory to support the Compliance Division. The role focuses on managing compliance risks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in law, audit, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a compliance role
  • Background in compliance, legal, or audit
  • Postgraduate qualification in the relevant field is an advantage
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa or another relevant professional body
  • Experience in state-owned enterprise compliance is an advantage
  • Experience in the water sector is an advantage

Primary Duties

  • Design, implement, and maintain a compliance framework for Rand Water and its subsidiaries
  • Identify, establish, and update Rand Water’s regulatory universe
  • Help develop the compliance strategy
  • Interpret laws and regulatory requirements
  • Provide real-time compliance advice and guidance
  • Ensure company policies align with legislation
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations
  • Interact with regulators on legislation matters
  • Research new compliance methods to improve services
  • Advise the Compliance Forum on compliance issues
  • Work with business units to create action plans for regulatory changes and compliance gaps
  • Manage interactions with regulators, collaborating with internal and external assurance providers
  • Advise Supply Chain Management Bid Committees on compliance
  • Lead efforts to resolve compliance issues
  • Identify areas of compliance risk and vulnerability
  • Spot business risks for non-compliance and develop policies to manage them
  • Report to executive management and shareholders through governance structures
  • Promote a culture of compliance across Rand Water and subsidiaries
  • Liaise with the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa on new developments
  • Develop and deliver training for compliance officers and business staff
  • Align the compliance framework with institute standards
  • Create the compliance program
  • Manage, supervise, and carry out the compliance plan
  • Handle staff matters, including selection, motivation, and performance reviews
  • Collaborate with line management to support responsibilities that protect the company’s reputation, avoid legal issues, build regulator relationships, and prevent unethical conduct
  • Promote awareness through campaigns and roadshows on compliance requirements

Knowledge

  • Computer skills in all MS Office programs
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Compliance Practice (GACP)
