Job Description

RCL Foods is seeking a driven and customer-focused Code 10 Driver Salesman to join our Baking Business Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting and selling bread and confectionery products. Key tasks include calling on customers (retailers and chain stores), taking orders, and delivering products, often for cash. This role is based in Kokstad and reports to the Distribution Manager. It is a permanent position.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 12
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)

Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Strong numeracy skills

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ driving experience in the FMCG sector
  • Proven experience in delivering and selling FMCG products for cash to existing and new customers

Key Responsibilities

Dress and Vehicle Duties:

  • Maintain a clean and safe vehicle at all times
  • Wear prescribed PPE and ensure the driving compartment meets safety standards
  • Conduct regular vehicle checks and report faults immediately
  • Adhere to road safety rules and report any incidents or damages promptly

Stock and Loading:

  • Verify stock loaded matches customer orders
  • Ensure safe loading to avoid road safety risks
  • Inspect stock quality and report issues
  • Assist with loading when required

Van Assistants:

  • Supervise and manage van assistants
  • Ensure van assistants are presentable and customer-focused
  • Train and coach van assistants to meet company standards

Sales and Customers:

  • Provide excellent customer service and seek opportunities to increase sales
  • Proactively identify new sales opportunities
  • Report customer issues and work to retain customers
  • Implement promotions as required

Deliveries:

  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of products
  • Manage stock levels to meet customer orders

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrange stock replenishment when needed
  • Secure orders for the next day’s delivery
  • Ensure crates are recovered and returned daily
  • Transport personnel, materials, or equipment as required

Transactional Duties:

  • Safeguard cash, paperwork, and stock
  • Complete and handle transactional documentation accurately
  • Record route data and ensure all monies and stock are accounted for
  • Conduct cash-ups in the presence of a supervisor

General:

  • Work overtime, weekends, and public holidays as required
  • Be on standby to assist with driver absenteeism
  • Comply with health and safety standards
  • Assist in other areas of the business as needed
