Requirements

  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel. Willingness to work after hours.
  • Basic R425 qualification (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
  • A post-basic qualification of at least one year in Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science: Health Assessment, Treatment and Care, accredited with SANC (R48).
  • Candidates without the required registration can apply but must provide proof of application for registration and payment of fees by the interview day. This applies only to first-time applicants for this post-basic qualification.
  • The pool of applications will be considered for similar vacancies in the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services for three months from the advert date, if the job title, functions, requirements, and salary match.
  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo written, practical, and oral assessments.
  • For Grade 1: At least 4 years of appropriate experience in nursing after SANC registration as Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
  • For Grade 2: At least 14 years of appropriate experience in nursing after SANC registration as Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
  • At least 10 years of the experience must be after the one-year post-basic qualification mentioned above.
  • NIMART training or experience. Knowledge of the nursing Code of Ethics, Professional Practice, SANC standards, and scope of practice.
  • Computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and MS Outlook.
  • Registration with SANC as Professional Nurse and Midwife.

Duties

  • Treat patients at Primary Health Care level for curative services, communicable diseases, mental health, and chronic diseases within your scope of practice.
  • Provide child and school health services, including nutritional integration, within your scope of practice.
  • Offer women’s health services, including antenatal care, within your scope of practice.
  • Assist with managing and running HAST Programmes (TB, STI, and HIV/AIDS).
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team to deliver quality, promotive, preventive, and curative Primary Health Care.
  • Advocate for patients to ensure quality healthcare.

Salary

Grade 1: R 476 367 – R 559 548 per annum

Grade 2: R 583 989 – R 723 954 per annum

Annual salary plus benefits (13th cheque, employer’s pension fund contribution, housing and medical aid allowance).
