The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) is an autonomous association comprising all 257 South African local governments. Key Performance Areas

  1. Maintain High Hygiene Standards:

    • Clean offices, restrooms, and lounges.
    • Maintain all cleaning equipment and machinery, and report any defects.
    • Forward requests for chemicals and cleaning materials needed for functions.
  2. Surface Cleaning:

    • Check glass surfaces for spots and fingerprints twice daily. Use spray cleaner for light switches and door knobs to remove smudge and grime.
    • Clean restrooms twice daily using sanitizing cleaner. Start with the lavatory sink, toilet, and toilet seat (including the lid and back of the toilet).
    • Refill soap dispensers.
    • Replenish toilet paper.
    • Polish mirrors.
    • Wipe around light fixtures and sanitize door knobs.
    • Remove trash, sweep floors, and damp mop floors.
  3. Waste Management:

    • Line trash cans with the appropriate size bags for clean and easy removal of contents.
    • Pick up all trash as needed throughout the day.
  4. Floor Care:

    • Dust and vacuum hard surface floors and carpets daily, especially in high-traffic and client-facing areas.
    • Damp mop hard surfaces even after dusting to pick up stray dust.
    • Dust furnace ducts and change filters as necessary.
    • Keep outside windows and doors closed as much as possible to prevent dust from entering.
  5. Trash and Vacuum:

    • Empty all trash containers and reline with new plastic liners.
    • Remove all trash from the building and place it in the designated containers.
    • Vacuum all carpeted foyers, especially areas seen by clients.
  6. Office Area Cleaning:

    • Clean and polish all desks and desk accessories.
    • Dust file cabinets, small meeting tables, and office equipment.
    • Empty and damp wipe ashtrays in smoking areas.
    • Spot clean walls and partitions.
    • Wipe phones, computers (desktop and laptops), printers, and photocopiers.
    • Provide a trash container next to the refrigerator.
  7. Kitchenette Cleaning:

    • Clean and empty the refrigerator regularly to prevent old items from remaining.
    • Wipe down microwaves, counter areas, sinks and tables whenever used.
    • Mop up leaks as soon as they occur.
    • Wipe down cabinets and food surfaces once a day and clean floors as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric Certificate.
  • Basic numeracy skills and must be physically fit and healthy.
  • Good communication skills.
