The Department of Employment and Labour plays a key role in reducing unemployment, poverty, and inequality. It develops policies and programmes in consultation with social partners to achieve improved economic efficiency and productivity, employment creation, sound labour relations, and the elimination of inequality and discrimination in the workplace.

Requirements

  • A three-year National Diploma (NQF 6) or an Undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Human Resources Management, Employment Relations, Labour Relations, Labour Law, or a Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
  • Two years of functional administrative experience in Employment Relations.
  • Knowledge: Public Service Commission’s rules for dealing with complaints and grievances, Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council’s Resolutions, research and analysis, Public Service Regulations, Grievance and Disciplinary policies, Human Resources Management Policies, dispute resolution, and CCMA Policies and Procedures.
  • Skills: Problem-solving, negotiating, presenting, good communication (oral and written), research, analytical thinking, computer literacy, and interpretation of legislation and policies.

Duties

  • Conduct and analyse all grievances and complaints received from employees in the Department.
  • Draft charges and finalise all misconduct cases in the Department.
  • Represent the Department in conciliation disputes referred to the General Public Service Sectoral Bargaining Council (GPSSBC) and the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
