Key Requirements
- A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (B Eng/BSc Eng).
- Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
- At least 6 years of experience after qualification as a registered professional Engineer.
- Extensive experience in maintaining and operating machinery and electrical systems.
- Strong background in hospital engineering or a similar field.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and health technologies.
- Experience in managing personnel.
- A valid Code EB/B driver’s license.
- Willingness to work outside normal hours, travel, and stay away from home.
- Ability to climb onto, over, and under machinery for inspections, repairs, or adjustments.
- Good planning, organizing, people management, and performance skills.
- Computer literacy, especially in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Skills to write, understand, and interpret specifications for electrical and medical equipment for procurement, policy reports, submissions, presentations, and research.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), Hazardous Substances Act (Act 15 of 1973), Comprehensive Health Services Plan, International Hospital Engineering Standards, Public Finance Management Act (Act 1 of 1999), Treasury Regulations, Accounting Officer System, Public Service Act, and Labour Relations Act.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage effective, efficient, and affordable engineering services, including inspections, maintenance, repairs, training, evaluations, and modifications.
- Act as the competent person under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for electrical and mechanical installations, and provide safety services for occupations and equipment.
- Give engineering input on construction projects and technical advice to hospital management.
- Manage allocated financial and human resources to meet performance goals and service needs.
- Handle contracts for engineering services, including setup and oversight.
- Prepare policy reports, submissions, and presentations.
- A practical or competency test may be part of the shortlisting or interview process.
- No payment is required when applying for this post.

Salary
Grade A: R 1,266,450 per annum. A portion of the package can be structured based on personal needs.
