Overview
The Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) oversees the Department of Cooperative Governance and the Department of Traditional Affairs, with its mandate grounded in various constitutional chapters, including those related to cooperative government, provinces, local government, and traditional leadership.
CoGTA is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Chief Director: Research & Information Management. This role will focus on the research and management of information related to customary law, traditional leadership, and the administration of Traditional and Khoi-San communities.
Key Requirements:
- A degree or equivalent qualification (NQF7) in Law, Public Administration, Public Policy, Anthropology, or a relevant field.
- A minimum of five years of senior management experience.
- Specialized knowledge and experience in the institution of Traditional and Khoi-San leadership, with an added advantage for those familiar with customary law research.
- A Certificate for entry into the Senior Management Services (SMS).
- A valid driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research Management: Oversee and manage research on customary laws, customs, and practices of Traditional and Khoi-San communities, with a focus on succession and genealogical records.
- Legislation Monitoring: Ensure the effective monitoring and compliance of legislation regarding Traditional and Khoi-San leadership and community claims, including succession disputes.
- Information and Database Management: Maintain and manage databases related to traditional leadership, customary initiation practices, and the recognition of Khoi-San communities.
- Support to Leadership: Provide assistance to Traditional and Khoi-San leaders and statutory bodies in resolving succession disputes and researching customary laws.
- Resource Management: Oversee the financial and human resources of the Chief Directorate, ensuring efficient use of resources and budget compliance.
