Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12, plus a three-year National Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Diagnostic Radiographer (Independent Practice).
  • At least 3 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiography. Knowledge and experience in radiography principles, systems, and procedures, including CT scanning, fluoroscopy, theatre screening, and general radiography.
  • Good understanding of radiation safety rules and knowledge of radiography equipment and protocols.
  • Awareness of relevant public service policies, acts, and regulations. Knowledge of HR policies, employee performance management, and development systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to promote and protect patients’ rights.
  • Knowledge of X-ray digital systems, RIS, and PACS.
  • Provide 24-hour radiology services.

Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing X-ray examinations.
  • Ensuring radiology equipment is installed and used according to radiation safety standards.
  • Maintaining equipment to ensure it works properly. Managing quality improvement and performing quality assurance programs and control tests as required.
  • Conducting radiation surveys to check equipment performance and radiation levels in work areas.
  • Complying with HPCSA regulations for continuing professional development each year.
  • Communicating radiation safety rules to staff and ensuring they follow them.
  • Training and supervising junior radiography staff. Overseeing administrative tasks like compiling memos, stock control, and resource management.
  • Handling all delegated departmental tasks with minimal supervision and managing crisis situations independently.
