Requirements

Interested candidates must meet these minimum qualifications:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s or Postgraduate qualification in Accounting, Internal Audit, Risk Management, MBA, or LLB.
  • One of these professional qualifications: CFE, CCSA, CIA, CA (SA), CEO, CRMA, CRM Prac, CRM Prof, or a relevant professional certificate.
  • Affiliation with a professional body such as the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA), Compliance Institute Southern Africa (CISA), Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA), South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), The Ethics Institute (TEI), or The Institute of Directors South Africa (IoDSA).
  • Proven expertise and experience in financial management, internal and external auditing, forensic audit, risk management, governance, combined assurance, compliance management, ethics, legal services, and information technology.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant regulations, including the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, ISO 31000, King IV Report on Corporate Governance, COSO, GACP, and Public Sector Risk Management Framework.
  • Current or past experience as a member of an audit or risk management committee for more than five years, and not serving on more than three committees at a time.
  • Willingness to serve the public responsibly, with qualities like independence, integrity, dedication of time and energy, good communication skills (oral and written), analytical reasoning, natural curiosity, and objectivity.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Top Secret security vetting process and a compulsory induction course at no cost.

Key Functions

Qualified individuals will provide the following services, among others:

  • Advise the Department, National Commissioner, and Management on risk management, performance management, effective governance, combined assurance, compliance with laws and regulations, information technology governance, fraud and corruption issues, ethics, and business continuity management.
  • Address any other issues referred to the Committee by the Department.
