About the Position

SARS is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, results-driven, and self-motivated Senior Manager/Lead with strong judgment and business acumen. You will contribute to our purpose and service focus. The role involves planning, managing, and monitoring the implementation of Legal and Specialised Tax activities and processes. You will lead a team to meet quality, turnaround time, and productivity targets, delivering on operational plans and enhancing service delivery. The position requires managing legal and specialised professionals and engaging with tax clients and stakeholders.

Job Purpose

To provide direction and leadership to the Legal Delivery, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Tax advisory teams. Ensure effective and efficient performance of LBI Legal and Tax activities to generate revenue and promote taxpayer compliance.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

  • Honours / Postgraduate Diploma (NQF 8) in Law/Accounting/Tax and 10-12 years’ experience in a Tax, Legal, and/or Dispute environment, including 3-4 years at management level.

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Law/Accounting/Tax and 12-15 years’ experience in a Tax, Legal, and/or Dispute environment, including 3-4 years at management level.

Job Outputs

Process

  • Develop tactical strategies and delivery plans in support of functional objectives, in partnership with leadership.
  • Direct, control, coordinate, and optimise budgeted resources to meet objectives and deliver results and productivity.
  • Ensure development and implementation of practices aligned with operational policy and procedures.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve functions and systems in line with national, regional, and organisational changes.

  • Implement governance, risk, and compliance policies in your practice areas to manage exposure and liability.
  • Manage or advise on translating and applying policy in specific functional areas.

  • Plan and develop organisational efficiency by identifying development needs and providing tools for people resources.
  • Translate performance expectations into metrics and goals to provide effective services, solve problems, and achieve objectives.
  • Create a positive work climate and culture to energise employees, give meaning to work, and maximise productivity.
  • Develop and implement people capacity plans aligned with delivery and efficiency targets, within budget and in partnership with specialised areas.

Finance

  • Implement and monitor financial controls, cost management, and corporate governance in your area.
  • Draw up budgets aligned with business unit plans, monitor planned vs. actual spending, minimise expenditure, and report on cost efficiency.
