The Audit Committee is an independent governance body that oversees the system of internal control, risk management, and governance. Under section 166(1) and 166(6) of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), No. 56 of 2003, Lephalale Municipality invites suitable candidates to serve on this committee. Remuneration will be paid per meeting, based on tariffs approved by Council.

Requirements:

  • A BCom in Accounting, a Degree in Auditing, a Degree in Public Administration, and/or an LLB, or equivalent qualification, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience in performance management and law. Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Must not hold any political office in any sphere of government.
  • Should be able to maintain independence, objectivity, and a commitment to the community.
  • Must have skills in financial management, auditing, performance management, or law.
  • Note: Employees of national, provincial, or local government, or agencies and entities of government, who serve on committees, commissions of inquiry, or audit committees are not entitled to additional remuneration.
  • Candidates must be registered with a relevant professional body.

Key Performance Areas (KPAs), among others:

  • Review annual financial statements to ensure they are fairly presented, complete, and follow appropriate accounting principles.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the organization’s internal control systems, including information technology security controls.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the Internal Audit Unit, including compliance with global international audit standards.
  • Review the system for monitoring compliance with laws and regulations, and examine management’s investigations and follow-up (including disciplinary actions) on any non-compliance.
  • Regularly report to Council on committee activities, issues, and recommendations.
