Salary: T-11 = R 356 244 – R 462 420 per annum, plus standard local authority fringe benefits.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent technical qualification.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in routine maintenance of gravel and surfaced roads.
- Computer literacy in MS Office applications.
- Code B driver’s licence.
Key Skills and Duties:
- Develop operational work plans and maintenance programs.
- Supervise foremen and senior staff.
- Handle general administrative tasks.
- Work independently within maintenance programs and report regularly to the manager.
- Be literate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will support the Area Coordinator: Caledon in preserving the municipality’s road network by managing, monitoring, and coordinating road work operations.
- Provide inputs for road infrastructure maintenance and development by measuring work and resources.
- Assist with planning, prioritizing, and assigning daily work activities, and ensure work details are recorded after completion.
- Delegate, assign, and monitor daily tasks for work teams on routine maintenance (sealing and layer works, signage, drainage, structures, vegetation control, rest areas, housekeeping), grader blading, re-gravelling, resealing, and construction.
- Monitor, control, and manage work performance, quality, effectiveness, and progress.
- Organize and manage team members, along with plant, equipment, and materials, to meet deadlines. Supervise, lead, guide, and train subordinates as needed.
- Handle storage, allocation, assessment, and condition reporting of signage, plant, equipment, and materials.
- Set up or erect temporary road traffic signage and signals to secure maintenance and construction sites.
- Identify and record services affected by tar or reseal operations.
- Administer personnel log sheets, attendance records, safety forms, and checklists for plant, equipment, and PPE, ensuring they are complete for processing.
- Follow Occupational Health and Safety regulations and address any safety or construction issues promptly.
- Report mechanical issues, failures, or damage on work plant and equipment to the Workshop Superintendent for servicing and repair.
- Assist with administrative duties, correspondence, and handling complaints from the public, organizations, and departments.
- Distribute and communicate public notices and road policy documents regarding maintenance, construction works, road closures, and alternative routes.
- Maintain road reserve serviceability by liaising with property owners, applicants, and transgressors on fence repairs, wayleaves, signage, access, and illegal activities on proclaimed roads.
