Assistant Store Manager – Howick

Our client, a leading national retail group, is looking for experienced Assistant Store Managers to help run daily operations in several branches across the Midlands and North Coast. You will manage one key branch. Positions are available in Pietermaritzburg, Howick, Hilton, Ballito, and Umdloti.

You need at least 3 years of experience leading a team in a retail setting, facing customers. Your background should include selling products like food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, home care, or maintenance items.

This role suits a hands-on manager who enjoys building teams, providing great customer service, and ensuring smooth operations in a busy environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help the Store Manager meet sales, service, and profit goals.
  • Manage stock control, including bi-annual stock takes, stock flow to the sales floor, ordering, replenishment, and reducing shrinkage.
  • Follow merchandising standards: plan and set up promotional displays, and ensure correct labeling, pricing, and layouts.
  • Handle daily store operations and staff schedules.
  • Resolve customer questions and complaints quickly to maintain excellent service.
  • Support the Click & Collect process for online orders, including handling related queries.
  • Assist with staff performance reviews, development plans, training, and HR tasks.
  • Ensure everyone follows company policies, procedures, and health and safety rules.

Essential Requirements

  • South African citizen.
  • Matric certificate.
  • Pass an MIE check: no criminal record and clear credit history.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable own transport.
  • At least 3 years as a supervisor.
  • Experience in sales floor management, receiving goods, administration, and cash office duties.
  • Solid skills in stock control, expense management, and reporting.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Great attention to detail and commitment to processes.
  • Willing to work retail hours and travel when needed.

Advantageous Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications.
  • Knowledge of systems like Excel, SAP, Unisolv, SuccessFactors, or similar retail software.
