Position Overview:

We seek two Assistant Research Officers to join our Soils Team. These roles focus on advancing soil science research to improve sugarcane production and environmental sustainability.

Available Roles:

1. Soil Biology Specialist

  • Integrate advanced biological techniques (e.g., metagenomics, DNA analysis) to optimize fertilizer recommendations
  • Research microbial communities’ role in soil health and greenhouse gas reduction
  • Develop soil health assessment frameworks using biological indicators
  • Investigate links between root health and soil ecosystems

2. Soil Physics & Chemistry Specialist

  • Conduct research on soil chemistry and sustainable management practices
  • Design field and lab studies on soil fertility and management
  • Analyze soil data and develop technical recommendations

Requirements:

  • MSc in Soil Science, Microbiology, or related field
  • 1+ year research experience in relevant field
  • Technical knowledge of:
    • Soil biology (for Biology role): Metagenomics, PCR techniques, biological assays
    • Soil physics/chemistry (for Physics role): Soil analysis, fertility management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license
  • SACNASP registration (candidate status acceptable)
