The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is a Section 3(a) public entity under the Ministry of Environmental Affairs, governed by a Board. Established as a public entity on July 15, 2001, under the South African Weather Service Act (No. 8 of 2001), as amended in 2013, SAWS is recognized as an authoritative body for weather and climate forecasting in South Africa.

Requirements:
- Grade 12 with a National Weather Certificate.
- A minimum of two years of experience in weather observation; previous island experience is an added advantage.
- Technical competencies in communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Candidates must be willing to work shifts (both day and night), including on public holidays, and in potentially adverse weather conditions.
- Punctuality, dedication, precision, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are crucial.
Key Duties:
- Assist and actively participate in running the surface meteorological and atmospheric research projects assigned by the Marine Section of SAWS.
- Perform surface meteorological observations and conduct upper-air balloon releases.
- Maintain and verify all equipment at the remote station on Marion Island.
- Conduct quality control of data and perform tasks within the prescribed scope of work as delegated by the Senior Meteorological Technician.
- Assist other team members with logistical and administrative tasks related to the general operation of the base.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with the rules, regulations, and standards set by the South African Weather Service.
