Purpose of the Job

The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports the smooth and safe operation of the fleet. This role involves coordinating maintenance, ensuring rules are followed, and keeping records accurate. You will help plan vehicle services, manage documents and service providers, and focus on cost savings and high performance. By checking and supporting daily tasks, you ensure vehicles are reliable, safe, and the workshop is well-maintained.

Job Objectives

  • Help plan and schedule fleet servicing and maintenance.
  • Support approving repair and maintenance invoices.
  • Monitor vehicle licensing and renew it on time.
  • Manage vehicle trip sheets and parts gate pass documents.
  • Spot check completed work against service provider quotes.
  • Work with tyre service providers to check tyre condition and use.
  • Help receive new vehicles and arrange fitments.
  • Oversee weekly tyre scrap processes and reporting.
  • Manage on-site service providers.
  • Assist with Occupational Health and Safety compliance and workshop cleanliness.
  • Coordinate with off-site providers for vehicle repairs when needed.
  • Arrange and follow up on accident repairs.
  • Support during roadside incidents and accident reporting.
  • Record services like brakes, A-services, COF, and trailer licenses in Mix Telematics.
  • Help with cost control efforts.
  • Inspect mechanical and cosmetic parts on horses, trucks, rigids, and molls.
  • Check internal and external load bodies.
  • Ensure all truck fire extinguishers are valid and up to date.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and qualified as a Diesel Mechanic.

Experience

  • Proven success in a management role in a similar position.
  • Experience with budgeting, cost tracking, or managing service providers is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the industry is an advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid understanding of disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with management and staff.
  • Team leadership and management skills are key.
