Qualifications:

  • Grade 9 / AET Level 4 / NQF 1
  • Basic electrical experience and knowledge
  • 1 year of relevant experience

Requirements:

  • Technical mindset
  • Good skills in at least two official Western Cape languages (Afrikaans/English and isiXhosa – able to read, speak, and write)
  • High sense of responsibility
  • Physically fit and able-bodied
  • Available to work outside normal hours during emergencies and planned overtime
  • Able to enter confined spaces
  • Willing to work in all weather conditions
  • Must perform duties across the entire municipality

Job Purpose:

Perform labor tasks to support electrical installation, repair, and maintenance. Use hand tools to dig areas, lay cables and lines, erect poles and structures, and clear obstacles or overgrown vegetation around overhead lines or electrical sites. Assist the Electrical Operator in minor works, and the Special Workman/Senior Electrician in major projects. Prepare sites, lay cables, replace components on isolated circuits, conduct load tests, and report results.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Carry out general labor during electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work
  • Clean work sites, store equipment and tools, and load materials before leaving sites
  • Support construction and installation of medium/low voltage electrical networks
  • Help maintain medium/low voltage electrical reticulation and lighting systems
  • Follow health and safety rules and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment
  • Participate in the Municipality’s Performance Management and Development System
