Requirements

  • Matric Certificate + 3-year National Diploma/Degree in:
    • Language Practice (SASL specialization)
    • Interpreting/Linguistics
  • 2+ years professional SASL interpretation experience
  • Preferred: Valid driver’s license

Essential Competencies

  • Expert knowledge of SASL grammar and Deaf culture
  • Proficiency in translation/interpreting best practices
  • Strong administrative & organizational skills
  • Government language policy implementation experience
  • Fluency in digital communication tools

Key Responsibilities

  1. Interpretation Services Management
    • Coordinate interpreting schedules for departmental events
    • Provide live SASL interpretation for meetings & engagements
  2. Language Development
    • Create SASL glossaries and training materials
    • Develop accessible communication content
  3. Policy & Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to language legislation
    • Implement departmental language policies
  4. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Conduct Deaf culture awareness workshops
    • Collaborate with academic institutions & language boards
