Assistant Director – Research

Position Overview

The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management seeks a qualified professional to lead research initiatives supporting crime prevention, police oversight, traffic management, and road safety strategies.

Salary

R468,459.00 per annum (Salary Level 9)

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent qualification
  • National Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 6/7) in Public Administration, Management, Statistics, Social Science, Economics, or related field
  • 3-5 years’ relevant experience in research/evaluation (2 years at supervisory level)
  • Valid driver’s license

Essential Knowledge

  • Research methodologies and strategic planning frameworks
  • Public Service regulations and legislative compliance (PFMA, Treasury Regulations)

Key Skills

  • Strong communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Microsoft Suite, SPSS)
  • Project management and report writing expertise
  • Ability to work under pressure and travel as required

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement departmental research policies/systems
  • Coordinate research studies from planning to execution
  • Analyze data and produce quality-assured reports
  • Manage research outputs alignment with strategic objectives
  • Lead cross-departmental collaboration on research initiatives
