Requirements
For Assistant Director Medical Biological Scientist:
- Master of Science (NQF level 9) and registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in reproductive biology as a medical biological scientist.
- At least 3 years of appropriate experience after HPCSA registration, including 5 years in a supervisory role.
For Assistant Director Clinical Technologist:
- B-Tech Degree (NQF Level 7) or Bachelor of Health Sciences (NQF Level 8), and registration with the HPCSA in Reproductive Biology as a Reproductive Clinical Technologist.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience after HPCSA registration, plus a Master’s Degree in Reproductive Biology and 5 years of appropriate experience in Reproductive Biology.
- Experience in supervisory or managerial roles is an advantage. Strong leadership and practical skills in assisted reproduction techniques.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in assisted reproduction, proficiency in service delivery, experience with advanced laboratory equipment and research databases, and involvement in the HPCSA training program for medical biological scientist interns in reproductive biology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; good administrative and organizational skills for daily lab operations; ability to work under pressure independently.
Duties
- Help develop and implement department goals. Work in a team to manage the Assisted Reproduction program, including service delivery through guidelines for operational efficiency.
- Focus on risk prevention and total quality management. Plan short- and long-term to align resources with policies and needs. Monitor lab systems and outcomes to set training standards for staff and interns.
- Handle administrative tasks like performance management of staff and students per policies, and support ongoing education for the team.
- Foster continuous technology development, education, and training by staying updated on relevant tools and techniques.
- Guide and motivate interns based on HPCSA curriculum and guidelines. Initiate, supervise, and support research projects and postgraduate study proposals.
