Assistant Director: Collections Management Jobs

SANBI seeks a motivated individual to coordinate curation and collection management standards at the Compton Herbarium. This role involves implementing policies, standards, and processes, as well as providing strategic input, planning, and reporting for targets.

The position requires a degree in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or an equivalent qualification at NQF 7. An honours degree or equivalent at NQF 8 is an advantage. Candidates need six years of relevant work experience, including time from postgraduate research, with at least three years in a supervisory role.

Key competencies include strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint); the ability to work independently and in a team; knowledge of natural science collection curation and management policies; excellent communication, organizational skills; and a proactive approach. A valid driver’s license with at least one year of driving experience and willingness to travel are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and coordinate curation and collection management.
• Provide strategic input for developing policies, standards, and processes for curation and collection management.
• Drive the implementation of these policies, standards, and processes.
• Perform research duties within the unit.
• Plan and report on targets for curation and collection management.
