Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing meals, snacks, and functions, with special attention to quality and presentation.
- Ensure all tasks and jobs are completed well, and take on these duties when needed.
- Help with lunch service.
- Assist in planning and costing menus.
- Place orders with suppliers.
- Help complete administrative tasks, salary changes, and other returns.
- Issue stocks and receive goods, checking quality, quantity, and price. Ensure stocks are stored and rotated correctly.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain company and legal hygiene standards.
- Carry out on-the-job training sessions. Identify staff with potential for growth and recommend them for promotion.
- Be familiar with HACCP and NOSA regulations and report any issues to the manager.
- Be aware of subordinate staff needs and report problems or discipline issues to the manager.
- Stay security conscious and ensure storerooms, safes, and lockable areas are secure.
- Assist with regular stocktaking.
- Attend meetings and training courses as required.
- Take charge of the restaurant and use initiative when the manager is absent.
- Participate in catering exhibitions to gain more knowledge and experience.

Qualifications
- Must have a National Senior Certificate.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in hospitality is advantageous.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in catering.
