Minimum Required Qualification:

  • Tracklayer Certificate or Platelayer/Boilermaker Trade Certificate or Blasting Certificate.
  • Grade 12 or relevant NQF 4.

The Appointee should:

  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Be medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Have a clear security screening record.
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in the installation and maintenance of rail networks.

Advantageous Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Platelayer/Boilermaker or Miner within a mining environment would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administration: Complete relevant documentation. Follow document control standards and procedures. Provide data and information. Keep documentation safe. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance, Installations and Construction: Follow equipment guidelines for maintenance, installation, and construction of surface rail networks. Inspect and check all work according to Transnet Specifications and SANS 3000. Use equipment and machinery safely, correctly, and effectively. Follow maintenance schedules. Report unresolved breakdowns or unsuccessful work. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the organization at all levels. Keep communication channels open with relevant stakeholders. Source, contract, and negotiate with service providers. Liaise with entities on environmental management requirements. Collaborate with external providers on tools to improve processes.
  • Financial Management: Follow cost-saving and cash conservation initiatives. Stay competitive on the global cost curve for surface operations.
  • Building a Values-Based Organizational Culture: Support and participate in the organizational development plan. Help shift the culture as described in culture assessments.
  • ESG Compliance: Align with international responsible mining principles. For SA Gold Operations, follow World Gold Council Responsible Gold Mining Principles. For SA PGM Operations, enhance Together for Sustainability initiative. For US PGM Operations, follow ICCM principles.
  • SHE Compliance: Follow safe work procedures. Comply with company standards and regulations, such as PPE. Report all incidents and near misses. Participate in SHEC campaigns and initiatives. Conduct inductions for team members on SHEC aspects before work starts. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Focus on Safe Production & Operational Excellence: Prioritize safety, health, and operational excellence. Improve position on the global industry cost curve.
  • People: Provide on-the-job training and coaching to team members. Nominate team members for developmental training. Ensure all team members are trained for their tasks. Manage team morale. Allocate tasks and assignments. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
