Requirements and Expectations

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Fitter and Turner).
  • Two (2) years of relevant working experience after obtaining the Trade Test Certificate is an advantage.
  • A valid, unexpired driver’s license.
  • Willingness to do production duties and overtime when needed.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993).
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
  • Good problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills.
  • Solid understanding of production and mechanical processes.
  • Ability to work alone and under pressure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment and installations, such as dams, reservoirs, houses, pump stations, machinery, dam walls, and pipelines.
  • Check mechanical equipment for faults and fix them according to set standards.
  • Service and maintain equipment as per maintenance plans.
  • Prepare, check, and assess maintenance schedules and projects to meet specifications and procedures.
  • Oversee the use of tools, stock, materials, and equipment in the office area.
  • Handle administrative tasks and reports, like completing job cards and work schedules.
  • Follow occupational safety standards and department policies.
  • Be ready to travel, do standby duties, work long hours, and perform well under pressure.
