Position Purpose
The role involves providing expert support for operational applications, with a focus on the Terminal Operating System (TOS). This includes troubleshooting and resolving issues, monitoring system performance, and offering guidance to users and service delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and other applications, including EDI support for external clients such as shipping lines and clearing agents.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment of business software systems.
- Conduct user training on existing and new GCOS functionalities and ensure seamless system adoption.
- Monitor and resolve issues reported through the helpdesk, ensuring timely and effective problem resolution.
- Translate user requirements into technical solutions and collaborate with stakeholders to address complex business challenges.
- Proactively research new technologies and process improvements to enhance productivity and system performance.
- Design, develop, and test software applications, ensuring high-quality, maintainable, and reusable code.
- Prepare documentation and deliver training materials for new solutions, and ensure successful deployment to production environments.
- Provide regular updates to stakeholders on technical designs and project timelines.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to optimize functionality and efficiency.
- Log and resolve issues in existing systems, ensuring proper documentation and resolution.
- Gather and analyze business data requirements, translating them into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
- Develop and maintain data visualizations, reports, and dashboards to effectively communicate findings.
- Apply user-centered design principles to enhance usability and accessibility of applications.
- Conduct usability audits and identify areas for improvement in user interfaces.
- Provide support for in-house and third-party applications, documenting bugs and fixes as needed.
- Assist in implementing support tools and processes, and manage project documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Driver’s license (Code 08 required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a relevant field (NQF 7).
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in applications development, business intelligence, or user interface/user experience design.
- Strong understanding of programming languages and tools, including Visual Studio, ASP.Net, MVC, IIS, VB.Net, C#, Microsoft SQL, JAVA, and Oracle.
- Certifications in Oracle APEX or other relevant technologies are advantageous.
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS is a plus.
Competencies
- Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and application systems management practices.
- Experience in developing and implementing new systems or system improvements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with users to address complex challenges.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to compile clear technical documentation.
- Experience in project management and application systems training.
