Key Responsibilities and Duties
Operational Excellence
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and explain all financial and admin reports, including monthly management packs and analytical reports.
- Help with monthly audit trail reviews.
- Handle procurement of clinic supplies.
- Manage credit control and billing, including FOREX calculations and patient refunds.
- Oversee admissions, pre-authorization, and patient financial case management.
- Prepare budgets and forecasts.
- Track, control, and manage the budget.
- Monitor the Hospital Management System with the Clinic Manager.
- Review human resources reports.
- Manage and update the asset register.
- Handle patient and admin records, including archiving.
- Manage petty cash and prepare payment schedules.
- Submit monthly reports to Head Office, including income statements, budget analysis, and reconciliations.
Financial Planning
- Coordinate the budget and forecast process to meet hospital deadlines.
- Work with IT and systems teams to set up for budgeting and forecasting.
- Develop hospital budgets and forecasts based on group finance guidelines, trends, and other factors.
Financial Processing
- Maintain asset registers.
- Manage bank reconciliations.
- Handle petty cash.
- Process supplier and customer documents.
- Record monthly accruals and provisions.
- Enter routine and special monthly journals, including payroll and revenue.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions.
- Process payroll, taxes, and submit to authorities.
Financial Reporting
- Analyze and report on the balance sheet.
- Prepare monthly debtors reports.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and disclosures.
- Review and report on project performance each month.
- Prepare packs for interim and year-end disclosures.
- Review annual financial statements for accuracy.
Financial Management
- Provide accurate and timely financial analysis and reports.
- Analyze balance sheet reconciliations, costs, and benchmarking results.
- Review the debtors’ book and explain its impact on hospital finances.
- Prepare management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
- Follow standard operating procedures for good governance.
- Analyze and report on budget differences.
- Help with actions to improve operations, systems, and processes.
- Process and review general ledgers.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with VAT rules.
Audit Activities
- Work with external and internal auditors.
- Sign off and resolve internal audit reports quarterly.
- Follow up and clear external audit queries and management letters.
Control and Governance
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Review policies yearly to manage risks.
- Create SOPs for new or updated processes.
- Monitor internal controls and make changes as needed.
- Manage control self-assessments, including peer reviews.

Requirements
Education
- BCom in Financial Accounting or a relevant finance degree.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- A relevant accounting qualification at NQF 7 level or equivalent.
- Honours degree at NQF Level 8 is preferred.
- Completed articles (training contract).
Work Experience
- At least 1 year post-articles experience (if articles completed); or
- At least 5 years of experience (if no articles); or
- Experience in a similar environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge
- Strong computer skills, especially in Excel and SAP.
- Current knowledge of GAAP.
