Advisor: Labour Relations and Collective Bargaining

Organization Overview

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) is the national association representing all 257 local governments in South Africa. We operate through nine provincial offices to support member municipalities with governance and strategic objectives.

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Contract
  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Labour Relations, HR, Law or equivalent
  • Experience Needed: Minimum 3 years in public sector HR/Labour Relations
  • Location: Polokwane, Limpopo
  • Department: Human Resources & Legal Services

Core Responsibilities

  • Represent municipalities in CCMA/SALGBC proceedings and disciplinary hearings
  • Provide technical support for HR committees and bargaining councils
  • Develop/implement labour relations policies for local government
  • Advise municipalities on employment legislation compliance
  • Conduct training workshops on labour law updates
  • Prepare mandated positions for collective bargaining
  • Monitor implementation of HR policies across municipalities

Required Qualifications

  • Legal qualification (LLB/Admitted Attorney – preferred)
  • Expertise in LRA, BCEA, Employment Equity & Skills Development Acts
  • Experience in municipal governance structures
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 08)
  • Strong analytical and dispute resolution skills
