  • Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar Aftercare Assistant to join its Aftercare program in January 2026. This is an exciting chance for a dynamic person to be part of an innovative network of schools. We develop generations of innovators and leaders who will shape the African Century.

About the Role

  • We need an Aftercare Assistant for grades 000 to grade 4. Aftercare Assistants help run the after-school program during school terms (about 4-5 hours per day) and during school holidays (about 8 hours per day).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Take initiative and make decisions quickly.
  • Be responsible for the care and safety of our children.
  • Monitor all students carefully and responsibly during aftercare.
  • Supervise all activities to keep everyone safe at all times.
  • Lead daily activities for the children based on our educational approach.
  • Communicate with parents.
  • Join relevant professional development sessions.
  • Manage student behavior following Nova Pioneer’s culture and behavior philosophy.
  • Help keep the aftercare area neat and organized.
  • Attend school functions.
  • Report any problems with children to your supervisor.
  • Help with dismissal at the end of aftercare, making sure each child leaves with the right adult.
  • Maintain a professional, friendly relationship with students and parents.
  • Work with other staff to create a positive, supportive team environment.
  • Take part in Open Days.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Leader based on the school’s needs.
  • Aftercare Assistants are supported by the Aftercare Manager, who helps with feedback and coaching for growth.

About You

Required skills and qualifications:

  • ECD Certificate or currently studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in Education or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) – ideal.
  • Living close to the school is an advantage.
  • Be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Love teaching and care deeply about each student’s success.
  • Have a deep understanding of children and know how to connect with the age group you work with.
  • Understand and have passion for student-centered learning.
  • Be a team player who enjoys group problem-solving.
  • Be skilled at using technology.
