The Environmental Resource & Waste Department of the is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join their team as an Area Manager (Operations Waste Management). This permanent position offers a basic annual salary ranging from R632,664 to R867,924, plus additional benefits.

Position Overview

The Area Manager will play a critical role in planning and overseeing the operations within the Waste Management Division. The role involves strategic planning, budget management, coordination of resources, and ensuring the efficiency and productivity of waste management services across the area.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Financial Management, Fleet or Transport Management, or Management.
  • Valid Code B or EB ‘s license.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in waste management.

Core Responsibilities

The Area Manager will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop short, medium, and long-term operational strategies for the Waste Division to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Budget Management: Coordinate and draft the operational and capital budgets for the waste management depot, ensuring alignment with overall departmental objectives.
  • Resource Coordination: Organize and manage the activities of the Waste Management Services Section, ensuring optimal utilization of all resources, including .
  • Operations Control: Supervise the activities within the solid waste area to maintain high productivity and adherence to operational standards.
  • Contractor Management: Organize and assist with deploying contractors and service providers to ensure equitable work distribution and service delivery within the area.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster and enhance working relationships among personnel, clients, service providers, contractors, and employees across various sections of the department.
  • Project Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of waste management projects to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Bid and : Assist with bid specifications and actively participate in relevant meetings to support project planning and execution.
  • Administrative Duties: Handle all administrative tasks linked to the role, including compiling reports and submitting items to the Head of Department (HOD).
  • Liaison Role: Collaborate with various stakeholders and to ensure cohesive and effective waste management operations.
