The City of Johannesburg is seeking qualified candidates for the following positions in the Health Department, Branch: District Health Systems. These roles are essential for providing quality primary health care services to the community. All suitably qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Enrolled Nursing Assistant

Department: Health

Designation: Enrolled Nursing Assistant
Remuneration: R15 872.78 per month (basic salary, excluding benefits)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/NQF Level 4 plus Enrolled Nursing Assistant Certificate;
  • 1 year of post-training experience as an Enrolled Nursing Assistant;
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

Primary Function:
The Enrolled Nursing Assistant will apply procedural nursing sequences in the management of comprehensive primary health care services. They will participate in community-focused awareness initiatives, providing support, information distribution, and demonstrations to ensure that health objectives in terms of all relevant national policies and standard guidelines are met.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Communicate with patients at clinics, access case files and records, and refer emergency client situations to professional personnel.
  • Provide basic total nursing care to clients, patients, and families within the prescribed scope of practice, ethical, and legal framework.
  • Contribute to effective data recording and control.
  • Participate in the delivery of awareness and educational programmes on clinical approaches to safe and healthy living for the community.
  • Provide support to professional staff and clinicians with specific applications associated with the provision of treatment for communicable and non-communicable diseases.

  • Conduct specific administrative processes and procedures.

Enrolled Nurse

Department: Health
Branch: District Health Systems
Designation: Enrolled Nurse
Remuneration: R19 285.42 per month (basic salary, excluding benefits)
Location: Region A, B, C, & F

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/NQF Level 4;
  • Certificate of Enrolled Nursing Course equivalent to Higher National Certificate (HNC) NQF Level 5;
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as Staff Nurse under Regulations (R2175);
  • 2 years’ experience post-enrollment as a Staff Nurse with the South African Nursing Council;
  • 1 year or more experience in a similar Primary Health Care (PHC) environment.

Primary Function:
The Enrolled Nurse will provide humane, scientific, safe, and comprehensive quality nursing care to individuals, families, and communities within the legal boundaries and ethical code of conduct. They will function independently within the prescribed scope of practice to provide preventive, promotive, curative, and developmental health care to individuals and groups. They will also make internal referrals for any condition outside their scope of practice, maintain professionalism, promote health, and prevent illness.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Assess, diagnose, and provide preventative, curative, promotive, rehabilitative, and referral health care services to clients within the boundaries of the defined scope of practice, on various clinical specialties (such as communicable and non-communicable diseases, childhood illness, uncomplicated pre- and post-natal care, etc.).
  • Provide support to professional staff and clinicians with specific applications associated with the provision of treatment for communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Participate and adhere to the prescripts of the Gauteng Health Management Information System (GHMIS) policy.
  • Participate in the delivery of awareness and educational programmes on clinical approaches to safe and healthy living for the community.
  • Perform specific administrative sequences associated with updating clinical records and registers.
  • Deliver customer-focused services internally and externally.

  • Interpersonal and counselling skills.

Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the City’s processes, best practices, policies, and procedures on health issues;
  • Basic mathematical literacy for drug dosage calculation;
  • Basic knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology for wound management, suturing/removal of sutures, and application/removal of Plaster of Paris (POP);
  • Basic applied pharmacology and microbiology for drug administration, infection control, and understanding of disease causality and prevention.
