The City of Johannesburg invites applications for its Student Internship Programme offering practical work experience in various departments. This 18-month initiative supports academic development and professional growth while contributing to municipal operations. The programme prioritizes Johannesburg residents who have not previously participated in City internships.
General Requirements
- South African ID document
- Proof of Johannesburg residence
- Completed qualification (360+ credits) relevant to applied position
- No prior similar internship experience unless required by academic curriculum
- Maximum age of 35 years
Available Positions
1. Food Value Chain Intern
Department: Social Development – Food Resilience Unit
Stipend: R10,109.86/month
Location: Traduna Building, Johannesburg
Requirements:
- National Diploma/Degree in Agriculture or Development Studies
- Understanding of food safety standards (HACCP/SABS)
- Knowledge of agricultural value chains
Key Responsibilities:
- Support smallholder farmers with market linkages
- Develop food processing training programs
- Coordinate agricultural market day events
- Implement food security initiatives
2. Youth Coordination Intern
Department: Social Development – Targeted Beneficiaries Unit
Stipend: R10,109.86/month
Location: Traduna Building, Johannesburg
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences/Development Studies
- Community development experience
- Youth program implementation knowledge
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate youth empowerment programs
- Organize community engagement activities
- Provide administrative support for youth initiatives
- Facilitate stakeholder collaborations
