Introduction

Assmang Pty Ltd is looking for an experienced Rigger – C2 with strong skills in winder systems and rope rigging. This position is based at Black Rock Mine Operations, which is located 80 km north-west of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. As a Rigger, you will play a key role in maintaining and setting up important rigging systems to keep operations running smoothly and safely. Your work will help ensure the efficiency and safety of our mining infrastructure, contributing to our goal of maintaining high standards in the industry.

Job Description

In this role, you will handle a variety of tasks to support the mining operations. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out detailed rigging work, such as taking apart, installing, and replacing heavy machines and parts.
  • Performing careful checks on lifting tools, winder ropes, attachments, mobile cranes, and the work area to ensure everything is safe and in good condition.
  • Doing asset care tasks following EAMS guidelines, and making sure all reports are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Recording and storing quality information correctly and in line with company rules.
  • Taking part in planning sessions and completing tasks to the required standards.
  • Contributing to changes and improvement projects by sharing helpful ideas and feedback.
  • Helping the team perform well and working in a supportive, team-focused environment.
  • Reducing waste where possible and finding ways to save costs while keeping quality high.
  • Building good relationships with other team members and handling any conflicts in a positive way.
  • Working on your own growth through learning plans and coaching from colleagues.
  • Joining team training and sharing knowledge with others.
  • Spotting problems, suggesting fixes, and making sure all rigging work meets the operation’s safety and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 / N3 (Required)
  • Certificate: Trade Test Rigger / Ropesman (Required)
  • Mobile Crane License (Required)
  • Valid Code EC Driver’s License (Required)
  • Symbol A Dover (Required)
  • 3 Years Post-apprenticeship experience as a Rigger / Ropesman in a heavy industrial, mining, or plant environment
  • 2 Years’ experience in Winder Ropes
  • 1 Year experience in Shaft work and slinging of material

Introduction

Assmang Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Fitter Shaft and Winder – C2 for their Black Rock Mine Operations, located 80 km north-west of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. In this important role, you will focus on preparing, operating, and maintaining key production equipment, especially mechanical and hydraulic systems in shaft and winder areas. Your daily and weekly inspections will follow the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other relevant regulations to keep everything running safely and efficiently.

Job Description

As a Fitter specializing in shaft and winders, your duties will involve hands-on work to support smooth mining operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing fitting tasks, finding faults, diagnosing issues, and repairing mechanical systems on shaft winders.
  • Conducting daily inspections and maintenance on mechanical equipment and workshop tools.
  • Ensuring the shaft winder operates safely and effectively for transporting ore, personnel, and materials.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and following SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality) standards, with safety always as the top priority.
  • Recording maintenance data accurately and reporting any problems promptly.
  • Assisting with plant and section maintenance to minimize downtime and keep production on track.
  • Taking part in planning meetings, change management, and ongoing improvement efforts.

We are looking for candidates with strong mechanical fitting skills gained in mining environments. Knowledge of tools like Microsoft Office, JDE, Qlickview, and Isometrix is helpful. You should have good basic problem-solving abilities, be assertive, and communicate clearly. A strong sense of accountability and the ability to work well in a team are essential for success in this role.

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate: Grade 12 (Required)
  • Certificate: Trade Test Fitter (Required)
  • Code B/EB driver’s license (Required)
  • Relevant Winder and Ropes Training (Required)
  • Dover A or B symbol
  • 3 Years post-apprenticeship Fitter experience in Winders and Ropes in a mining, heavy industrial, or plant environment
