Job Description

  • Operate a tractor equipped with various implements, such as bush cutters, slashers, and spraying machines.
  • Ensure that soil cultivation is performed accurately, on time, and in a professional manner.
  • Safely transport farm produce, fertilizers, and other farm equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance on the tractor and its implements.
  • Manage time effectively when carrying out individual and team tasks.
  • Keep records of daily work activities, diesel usage, and spraying programs.
  • Assist with general farm work as directed by the line manager.
  • Comply with all requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHSE) Act.

Job Requirements

  • Grade 10 qualification with at least 1-3 years of experience as a tractor driver.
  • Grade 12 qualification with tractor driving experience will be an added advantage.
  • Good reading and writing skills.
  • Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s license.
  • Willingness to undergo a tractor driving competency test during the interview process.

Job Description

  • Contribute to ongoing research projects on DNA marker technologies, including molecular breeding to support breeding programs.
  • Collaborate with breeders to design and implement molecular breeding research experiments that support various breeding programs.
  • Stay updated on new developments in DNA marker technologies by reviewing recent publications and research reports, keeping the division informed.
  • Compile personal progress reports and contribute to other internal and external reports.
  • Capture, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Contribute to the creation of intellectual property (IP) and Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR).
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to postgraduate students, research technicians, and assistants. Understand the management of co-workers and mentees.
  • Disseminate technology through peer-reviewed scientific articles, popular publications, and other means.
  • Comply with human resource policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

  • MSc in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Plant Breeding, or Genetics.
  • Strong background and experience in molecular biology and plant molecular markers.
  • Experience in using applicable genetic data analysis tools.
  • Accurate data collection skills and attention to detail.
  • Management skills, including research project planning and time management.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to liaise with clients, fellow scientists, and support staff.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures.
