About the Role

The University of Pretoria is looking for an Assistant Accountant to support the Student Accounts division. This role involves working closely with sponsors, students and internal teams to manage bursaries, refunds and financial records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist sponsors with Memorandums of Agreement and related enquiries.
  • Handle accounts, progress reports and academic records.
  • Request invoices from the Debtors Division and process refunds for unspent sponsor funds.
  • Allocate bursaries to accounts receivable based on donor type.
  • Disburse bursaries to student accounts and schedule monthly payments for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Receive and review disbursement forms, ensuring quality control.
  • Support student registration at the start of each year.
  • Assist with system testing and development in PeopleSoft.
  • Perform quality control of tuition levies.
  • File all bursary documentation and approve disbursement requests according to policy.
  • Handle enquiries from CSC/satellite campuses, students and stakeholders.
  • Communicate with students and stakeholders via e‑mail, SMS and letters.
  • Prepare monthly statistics and reports for the Division manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or equivalent with Accounting as a subject.
  • At least three years of experience in financial administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance or equivalent qualification.
  • Three years of experience in a financial or higher education environment.
  • Three years of experience in administering refunds and bursaries.
  • Three years of experience using PeopleSoft or a similar ERP system.
