Job Purpose

A Process Controller operates process equipment and systems for a specific plant or unit within the Sasol environment to achieve production requirements safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in emergency preparedness exercises.
• Perform routine inspections of safety equipment.
• Conduct Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) observations.
• Execute effective shift handovers.
• Isolate electrical equipment safely.
• Perform gas tests for vessel entries and hot work.
• Mix and handle process chemicals.
• Compile shift logs.
• Participate in INVOCOM and IMS inspections.
• Contribute to incident and accident prevention.
• Report all deviations.
• Maintain plant cleanliness.
• Monitor and report on emergency preparedness exercises.
• Carry out tasks on equipment as per signed‑off Career Guide.
• Complete permit training and perform level standby duties.
• Participate in potential deviation analysis (PDA), root cause analysis (RCA) and risk assessments.
• Apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and PSM standards.
• Follow modified plant procedures after implementation.
• Participate in startup and shutdown activities.
• Adhere to permit‑to‑work procedures.
• Follow SHERQ standards (ISO, ASHAS and implemented).
• Engage in behaviour‑based safety programs on shift.
• Support alignment of work with maintenance and technical departments.
• Help resolve performance problems.
• Utilise available resources such as raw materials and personnel.
• Promote diversity in the workplace.
• Coach and provide technical training to fellow workers.
• Maintain personal competence on plant operations.
• Plan career progression through the career path.
• Manage own performance and achieve results by empowering others.

• Assist with projects involving technical and support functions.
• Help implement organisational change initiatives within the team.

Formal Education

• Matric/Grade 12 with Maths and Science.
• NQF Level 2 Occupational Trade Qualification (Chemical) or Chemical Plant Operator qualification.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
