About the Role

The Safety Officer will manage FlySafair’s aviation safety programme. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct safety audits and identify latent hazards.
  • Carry out risk management analyses and investigate incidents and accidents.
  • Ensure mitigation measures are in place for identified safety risks.
  • Maintain the internal safety data system and monitor trends.
  • Evaluate corrective actions and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on civil aviation safety concerns and their impact on FlySafair.
  • Coordinate the aviation safety programme and related safety matters.
  • Collaborate with the training department on safety training.
  • Investigate all incidents and accidents involving company assets.
  • Distribute accident, incident and safety reports.
  • Work with security to implement the security programme.
  • Track aircraft component reliability and conduct service provider audits.
  • Support the emergency response plan and the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Disseminate safety bulletins to all staff.
  • Promote safety awareness based on system findings.
  • Lead safety meetings with relevant personnel.
  • Ensure safety equipment is operational.
  • Conduct safety risk audits and participate in CAA and external audits.
  • Assist the OSHE Officer with the OHSE programme.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise external stakeholders on safety matters around assets.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (essential).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing an aviation safety programme (essential).
  • Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence (current or expired) (essential).
  • Human Factors in Aviation (essential).
  • Train the Trainer (essential).
  • Aviation Auditor (essential).
  • Safety Management Systems for Aviation (essential).
  • Lead Auditor (advantageous).
  • Accident and Incident Investigation (preferred).
  • Computer literate – MS Office (essential).
  • Attention to detail, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Well organised, able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to collaborate and prioritise workload.
  • Risk management skills.
