Job Purpose

As a tyre fitter, you play a key role in keeping vehicles safe and running smoothly. You will select, fit, and maintain tyres for different types of vehicles, from cars to heavy trucks. Your work ensures every tyre meets high standards of performance and safety.

Responsibilities

Key Performance Areas:

  • Tyre Fitting and Removal:
    • Mount new tyres onto vehicle rims using the right tools and machines.
    • Clean and paint rims before fitting tyres.
    • Fit wheels onto vehicles properly.
    • Match dual wheels correctly.
    • Inflate tyres to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    • Report any defects, such as studs, washers, or wheel nuts, to the site supervisor.
    • Perform pressure and torque checks.
    • Torque wheel nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    • Brand tyres as required.
    • Follow all safety standards.
  • Customer Service:
    • Advise the site supervisor on actions needed to help customers.
    • Greet customers in a friendly way with a smile.
    • Always stay clean and presentable.
  • Housekeeping and Asset Management:
    • Handle tools with care and store them correctly.
    • Keep the work area and yard clean at all times.
    • Ensure machines and tools are clean and stored safely.
    • Keep dressing rooms neat and presentable.
    • Protect company property from damage.

Health and Safety

  • Follow health and safety standards in the workplace and avoid endangering others.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Keep personal safety equipment and facilities in good, clean condition.

Documentation

  • Complete tyre change slips accurately and submit them on time.
  • Prepare survey reports correctly and submit them promptly.
  • Clock in and out at the correct times by signing the time register.

General

  • Follow all reasonable requests and instructions within your role.
  • Understand the basic operation of vehicle lifting equipment.
  • Have basic knowledge of wheel alignment.
  • Have basic knowledge of suspension components.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Education and Certifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Basic knowledge of tyre types, sizes, and handling techniques.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Attention to detail and strong focus on safety.
  • Forklift or machinery operation certification is an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.

Experience:

  • Computer literacy.
  • Experience in the tyre industry is an advantage.

Language Skills:

  • English.
  • Any local spoken languages.
