Essential Requirements

Grade 12.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a B.Tech in Environmental Health or as a Peace Officer.
  • Registration with the Department of Agriculture if applicable. Registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa for independent practice.
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience, including 3 years at a managerial level. A valid driver’s license. Competency in using computer packages.

Key Performance Areas

  • Develop and review the municipal health services strategy to support the community services strategy and the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP). Use input from departments, divisional staff, and the relevant legislative framework. Plan and address audit queries related to the division in line with the audit action plan.
  • Scrutinize and present assessment reports, community health profiles, and environmental health risks. Include mechanisms to remedy and reduce environmental health nuisances and hazards. Share these with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the dissemination of information and guide personnel and management on environmental health matters. Lead and manage community and household awareness campaigns and education on health problems, treatment follow-up, food supply and nutrition, safe water and basic sanitation, and prevention of local endemic diseases.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with statistical data and qualitative information for management and control purposes in the section. Submit these to the Senior Manager.
  • Monitor and implement corrective measures to address deviations or acts contrary to financial regulations, audit requirements, and departmental procedures.
