Medical Officer Grade 1 to 3 (Trauma Centre) (1-year contract)

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):

  • Skills in managing airways and resuscitating seriously injured patients. Ability to conduct research. Ability to work as part of a trauma team.
  • Knowledge, expertise, and experience in providing medical care for high-care trauma patients. Basic surgical skills, ultrasound training, PALS, BLS, and ACLS.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • A relevant qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.

Experience:

  • Grade 1: None after registration as a Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA for South African qualified employees. 1 year of relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council for foreign qualified employees (who do not need to complete Community Service in South Africa).
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA for South African qualified employees. A minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council for foreign qualified employees (who do not need to complete Community Service in South Africa).
  • Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA for South African qualified employees. A minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council for foreign qualified employees (who do not need to complete Community Service in South Africa).

Registration with a Professional Council:

  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.

Duties (Key Result Areas/Outputs):

  • Teaching. Clinical governance. Clinical service: Patient care and assisting in theatre. Innovation and research. Leadership.
