Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for the North Cape Mall store. You will help provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medication needs and ensuring these needs are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate – MS Office
  • Good numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and a second language
  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • Third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Help compound, manipulate, or prepare non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to formulas and approved standard operating procedures
  • Assist in manufacturing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances following approved procedures
  • Help with re-packaging medicines
  • Assist in distributing and controlling stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Help order medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as instructed by authorized persons
  • Assist in reading and preparing prescriptions, selecting, manipulating, or compounding medicines, labeling, and supplying them in appropriate containers after pharmacist evaluation
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally and responsibly within legal and SAPC requirements
  • Capture script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication; be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on how to use supplied medicines
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing
  • Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up with patients on script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager and on appointments
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Provide health promotion information to individuals
  • Process paperwork for accurate submission of claims to medical aids
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify UCS to merge centrally
  • Note and act on any messages in customer profiles
  • Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures and merchandise using FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Assist with bi-annual stock takes
