Job Description

Dis-Chem Baby City is looking for a Sales Assistant for their Riverside Store in Somerset West, Cape Town. The main goal of this role is to help customers with excellent service.

Key tasks include keeping stock levels in check, handling payments at the point of sale, and maintaining high standards for merchandise displays.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Up to 6 months’ retail experience
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in retail

Advantageous:

  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Role and Responsibilities

  • Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and expired stock to management.
  • Help with counting stock files and general stocktaking.
  • Assist with loading and unloading stock when required.
  • Identify and report damaged or expired stock right away to management.
  • Flatten boxes after unpacking stock and move them to the designated area.
  • Make sure full ranges of products are always on the shelves and neatly presented.
  • Keep shelf stock fresh and ensure it has not reached its sell-by date.
  • Restock merchandise as needed to boost sales.
  • Check that displays, labels, and pricing are correct, and report any price issues to management.
  • Stay updated on new products to help customers effectively.
  • Handle all merchandise with care to avoid losses.
  • Build displays on time for promotions.
  • Implement monthly promotions well to increase sales.
  • Put up relevant posters and signage in time for promotions.
  • Place promotional tickets, price tickets, posters, and so on within the expected timeframe.
  • Remove promotional stock immediately after promotions end.
  • Manage cash flow accurately and follow proper cash-handling procedures.
  • Process all purchases: receive, verify, and handle payments like cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted methods.
  • Ensure all outgoing stock, items, or scripts are scanned and paid for.
  • Process loyalty cards, including those from partner programs.
  • Build professional relationships with customers and offer friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance and advice.
  • Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
  • Handle all customer stock queries and resolve them promptly.
