Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Family Physician.

Duties (Key Result Areas/Outputs):

  • Provide clinical services as a consultant and clinician with expertise across all areas of family medicine. Be skilled in teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision. Ensure clinical governance, risk, and quality management. Engage in academic activities, teaching, and relevant research. Coordinate continuous professional development (CPD) programs and support ongoing training in the facility. Manage clinical staff and help with budget planning for clinical services.

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):

  • Strong leadership, clinical, and communication skills. Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in delivering primary healthcare at clinic and hospital levels. Knowledge of the Community Orientated Primary Care approach and skills to engage stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to design and implement care pathways, guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives. Work well under pressure. Basic computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel). Participate in on-call rosters. Experience in facilitating clinical teaching, learning, and assessment for undergraduate and postgraduate health sciences students, as well as medical officers, nurses, and allied health staff.

Experience:

  • Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist.
  • Grade 2: At least 5 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign health professional council for foreign-qualified employees) as a Family Physician.
  • Grade 3: At least 10 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign professional health council for foreign-qualified employees) as a Family Physician.
