Requirements

  • Grade 12.
  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Recognised Trade Tested (Red Seal).
  • Certified in Operation Regulation for High Voltage Systems.
  • Code C (10) driver’s license.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of the Midvaal electrical reticulation network or a similar-sized network is essential to provide safe and effective services to the community.
  • Certified up to and including 88kV.
  • Good staff management and supervision skills.
  • Willing to work overtime and do standby duties.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Financial Management Act is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Project Management and Financial Management skills and experience.
  • Competent in implementing, interpreting, and enforcing relevant legislation and policies.
  • Proven management skills, including analytical thinking, empowerment, adaptability, communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, conceptual skills, presentation, conflict and stress management, negotiation, attention to detail, report writing.
  • Five (5) years’ relevant Foreman experience in an electrical supply environment within Local Government.

Duties

  • Assist the superintendent and oversee, organize all electrical reticulation and maintenance in the electrical section.
  • Lead, guide, and assist electricians and the electrical team with all maintenance and reticulation tasks.
  • Supervise and control maintenance and repairs of all assets. Compile reports and keep accurate records.
  • Respond to electrical faults and emergencies.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Report any loss, damage, or injury to the workforce.
  • Responsible for control according to law (ORHVS Act – Operation Regulation for High Voltage Systems).
  • Take responsibility for personnel and apparatus up to and including 88kV. Ensure safety of personnel and apparatus.
  • Adhere to all applicable Council Bylaws and relevant legislation. Perform any other related ad hoc tasks as requested by management.
