Requirements:

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree or an equivalent related qualification recognized by SAQA.
  • Experience as a legal practitioner in legal and compliance matters at an executive level (such as a Board of Directors member, Board Committee member, or Audit Committee member, especially in the public sector at a senior level) will be preferred.
  • Interested candidates must be independent non-executives and may not have any business interests or dealings with the GCIS.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in participating in governance structures, especially Audit and Risk Committees, and the ability to dedicate time and resources to the work of the GCIS Audit Committee.

Duties:

  • The successful candidate will work according to an approved Audit Committee charter.
  • Responsibilities include overseeing the system of governance, risk, and control, and providing recommendations to the Accounting Officer on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal and external audits, internal controls, risk management, governance (including IT governance), financial management, financial and non-financial reporting, and compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Additionally, assist the Accounting Officer in ensuring an effective combined assurance plan is developed and implemented.
