Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a reliable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for the Magalies Hills store in Brits. In this role, you will help provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate, including MS Office
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Good command of English and a second language
  • Willing to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • A third additional language
  • Knowledge or experience with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Understanding of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and procedures under the responsible pharmacist
  • Support the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines following approved procedures
  • Help with repackaging medicines
  • Manage the distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6, as instructed by an authorized person under the Medicines Act
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, label and supply them in the right container, after the pharmacist reviews the prescription
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within SAPC legal requirements
  • Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, knowing common dosages and key drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on how to use the supplied medicine
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing
  • Make sure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist for accuracy
  • Advise and assist customers at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up on patient script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager, and track appointments
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Share information to promote health
  • Handle all paperwork for accurate claims submission to medical aids
  • Fix errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Keep customer profiles updated on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify UCS for central merging
  • Check messages on customer profiles and take appropriate action
  • Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive and merchandise dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem’s procedures, using FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Support bi-annual stock takes
  • Maintain control over stock, cash, and assets
